Launched by the end of 2021, the competition was open to all perfumers working with sandalwood. It is now coming to an end and ten finalists have been selected. The winner will be announced during the World Perfumery Congress (WPC) in Miami.
Quintis Sandalwood, an Indian and Australian sandalwood sourcing company, announced an international competition open to all perfumers on October 28, 2021, in collaboration with the American Society of Perfumers.
Sandalwood Reimagined is the inaugural initiative of Quintis’ Q-Lab, a new teaching and innovation center dedicated to the promotion of this precious material. The competition was free of any traditional brief, in order to recognize perfumers’ originality, by enforcing as its sole requirements the following conditions : the use of Indian sandalwood oil grown by the company in a minimum dose of 1% in an eau de toilette and a declaration of creative intent. The deadline for submitting entries was March 31, 2022. Nearly 300 compositions from around the world have been submitted.
An independent jury of perfumers from Givaudan, Firmenich, Estée Lauder, Ralph Lauren, Coty, and Mane, among others, conducted blind testings of the creations on blotters and on skin.
Ten candidates were chosen and revealed at the SIMPPAR trade show in Paris on June 1, 2022.
Elodie Durande (UK), Gwen Gonzales (USA), Jennifer Jambon (France), Mathieu Lenoir (UK), and Celia Orozco Cirimbili (Italy) competed in the “Global winner” category (perfumer or senior talent).
David Clément (UK), Fanny Ginolin (France), Cédric Gras (France), Miro Senjak (Switzerland), Solène Bourquin (France) competed in the “Emerging talent” category (junior and student perfumers).
The prizes will be awarded during the closing cocktail reception at the World Perfumery Congress on July 1, 2022, in Miami. The winner of the first category will receive AUD 10,000 (about EUR 6,400), while the Emerging Talent winner will receive AUD 2,000. (approx. EUR 1,280).
