A year after the release of its book Grasse, de la fleur au parfum published by Gallimard, innovators in nutrition, health, and beauty DSM-Firmenich continues to ramp up its approach to naturals. An approach that aims to “use science to harness nature and enhance its riches.” Xavier Brochet, Global Head of Natural Product Innovation, tells us more.
On the occasion of the International Exhibition of Raw Materials for Perfumery (SIMPPAR) which will take place on May 31 and June 1 in Paris, we invite you to discover a series of articles originally published in the book From Plant to Essence – A World Tour of Fragrant Raw Materials. Let’s start with Firgood extraction method, unveiled by Firmenich at the exhibition two years ago.
When a lover of nature teams up with perfumers who know how to magnify it, creative ideas for honoring woods blossom. In this way, Fabrice Croisé has enabled an extraordinary forest of fragrances to grow at IFF.
Although perfumers at IFF have long been accustomed to working together, the company went a step further by making the collaborative approach official in the early 21st century. An approach that has since been adopted by all the composition houses. Behind the scenes of a revolution.
The International Exhibition of Raw Materials for Perfumery (SIMPPAR) was held on June 1 & 2, 2022, after three long years of anticipation. It provided the opportunity to not only learn about the latest developments and ingredients that will be used in future formulas, but also (and most importantly!) to finally be together again.
At a time when every area is concerned by sustainability issues, what steps are creation houses taking to cut the amount of waste generated in their laboratories? Let’s take a quick look at some of the best ideas.
Representing the fifth generation of his family to work at Robertet, Julien Maubert holds the post of Head of Raw Materials. Keen to reconcile family heritage with innovation, the group combines tried and-tested traditional methods with sustainable sourcing.
As a chemistry graduate, Frédéric Badie first joined Mane to train in formulating natural ingredients. From there he went to Charabot, where he worked on olfactory and analytical control before becoming a perfumer at CAL-Chauvet. He is currently R&D director at Payan Bertrand.
He loves the finer things in life, including wine and haute cuisine. He has launched his own brand, Mark Buxton Perfumes, and is co-founder of the Nose perfumery concept store in Paris.
What will the fragrances of tomorrow be made of? Sustainable beets, feminine fougères or safely toxic fragrances? Firmenich’s perfumers and creative team give us a glimpse into the future.
“To do well you must do good and to do good you must do well”: The motto reflects the legacy of Firmenich company that just celebrated its 125th anniversary in November 2020.
Firmenich is launching its fourth ingredient created using their white biotechnology, Dreamwood*. Through the alchemy of various substances science and nature have combined to transform sugar into a sandalwood scent.
