This interview continues our world tour of the niche perfumeries that honored us by becoming retailers of our magazine. For our third stop, we invite you to a Californian trip, to Los Angeles, to discover Lucky Scent with Franco Wright.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

How did you get into the world of perfume?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was a bit of an accident\u2014 both Adam (by business partner) and I had started a design agency back in 1999\u2014 mostly doing web design and advertising. So this idea came about doing an luxury site \u201con the side\u201d and since we were building sites for so many clients\u2014 why not try our hand at e-commerce? Initially I suggested a site focusing solely on handbags, shoes and perfumes\u2026 Adam brought me down to reality and we settled on fragrances\u2026 and interestingly enough one of the inspirations was a CDG eau de cologne<\/em> that we couldn\u2019t find online\u2026. so it went on from there. Our very first customer was our Fedex delivery driver!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to you, what are the specificities of your shop?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our goal was to create a fragrance boutique both thrilling and inviting; a place you\u2019d want to hang out and explore perfumes and enjoy conversation in turn we\u2019ve created a really fun community in a setting free from pushy sales tactics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How do you choose the brands that you sell in your shop?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s always a hard question, there is no easy answer! Every brand we choose usually has to meet a multitude of criteria before we bring it in. Each year the market is getting more saturated, so the curation process is becoming much more challenging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Have you had any crushes this year?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bogue\u2019s MEM<\/em> is spectacular.Naomi Goodsir\u2019s Nuit de Bak\u00e9lite<\/a><\/em> is a groundbreaking take on tuberose. And I have a soft heart for all things comme des gar\u00e7ons, so having their re-releases back in stock is a real joy<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What perfume do you wear today?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Being around fragrance all day long\u2026 smelling and testing dozens of submissions, I tend to wear what\u2019s in front of me at that moment; sometimes it can be as many as 5 different fragrances. But at night and on weekends\u2026 I need a break and that\u2019s where Molecule 01<\/em> works its charm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What made you choose to sell \u201cNez\u201d in your shop?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

First, the magazine is beautifully designed\u2026. the illustrations, typefaces… that\u2019s what drew me in; but the content turned out to be the real treat; so I say bravo to the Nez team for incredible work!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How do your customers react to it?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019ve quickly sold out of our first order – without formally announcing Nez. So I\u2019d say\u2026 it\u2019s going GREAT!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
